To start with, I was very skeptical about how well this would work; if it really would play my "foreign" dvds and blu rays. Well, I was amazed at how easy it was to set up, how easy it was to operate and how I read others had so much trouble with theirs. The first thing I tried was a region 3 DVD. Put it in and hit play. Thats it, just hit play and it ran its thing without any input from me. Perfectly. Next, tried a region B blu ray. Followed the instructions (mine are clearly written, in English and easy to follow). Turned it on, hit "2" on the remote, opened up the tray, dropped in the blu ray and closed it. Sure enough, it loaded right up, played through and never missed a beat. Couldnt have been easier. Why anyone had a problem is beyond me. And, the 3D was amazing. Clear, bright, ...perfect. The conversion instructions were written for this Samsung 5900 as well as the Panasonic, LG, Sony and Yamaha machines (they probably all are closely related in design and use the same multi-region converter systems). Couldnt have been simpler. I highly recommend this machine and if you are lucky enough to find it on sale (mine was), then I would definitely consider this machine as your choice. UPDATE: Discovered that I DON"T have to select the region (as others have stated). I reset my machine to "region A" for BRs. I put in a "region B" and closed the tray. It played immediately, without any input from me. Thinking it a fluke, I tried resetting the region code to "C" and dropped in a different region B disc. Sure enough, it reset itself to the region B again and off it went. Still set on "C", I dropped in a region A and it played through without any help from me. In other words, it set its own code by the info on the disc. The same with various regions of DVDs...I didnt have to do a thing. The second discovery was purely accidental. I turned the player on manually, to clear a disc out and when I hit the power button on the player, my Sony STR-550 receiver turned on. Thinking it a fluke I turned everything off again. Powered up the Samsung player and again, it turned the receiver on. I have two machines, so I tried the second Samsung on the same receiver. Yup, turned on both at once from the Samsung control. The only thing in common is that the receiver and the Samsung are both wireless and possibly, the Samsung links itself to the receiver in that way. SO, I am still experimenting with it but it might be another amazing thing about this BD-H5900...

The first move i made with this media player was to upgrade the firmware , then checked all the settings , then to test it with a region A blu-ray disc which at first showed a region error , pressing stop twice never made it reset to play the disc so did a factory reset and went through the setting again to cure the problem , rebooted the play loaded the disc again and it played giving excellent results with every feature tested ,also it gained access to the PC and played all videos selected stored in a video folder the results were first class , yes it played discs from the UK , Aust , the USA auto without the need to select the region , with stunning results , this Samsung BD-J5900 player can be highly recommended as a all region media device .

Player works well. Fine video. Please note these comments: It is range free for both Blue Ray and DVD, however, one must manually change each blue ray region to play a disc. Also, unlike another Samsung non-region free player, this one does not include Amazon access. Still, unlike the other player, it will easily play finalized DVD-R discs. Last, for some reason, when initially turned on and when first opening the tray, it only gives a few seconds to insert a disc before automatically closing. Strange.

For years I have longed to see several old Brit comedies that are unavailable in the US standard NTSC versions. After being guided to this device by a very knowledgeable salesman at one of the Big Box stores I decided that it was time that I purchased a player that would accommodate several DVD/Blu-Ray NTSC movies but also PAL and SECAM productions as well. I had one old PAL movie on hand for years (Peter Sellers - Two-Way Stretch) and couldnt wait to play this. The instructions that came with this modified player are very simple and I immediately dropped in the old Peter Sellers DVD which played perfectly. Then I followed the easy instructions to change the Region Format to NTSC with one click of the remote and I watched a flawless production of La Boheme with Pavarotti and Mirella Freni - no problem switching from NTSC to PAL and vice versa, just 1 click is required on the accompanying remote. I couldnt be more pleased and ordered the PAL version of the Dads Army Collection and it too has operated flawlessly to date. There are many old movies that I hope to collect which were made in the 30s, 40s and 50s produced in Hollywood but also in England. Now, with the ability to play movies in either format I look forward to building a collection of my favorites. I will mention one minor disappointment that should not change anyones mind: the inclusion of the small world map that lists the various locations where the different formats are used is of little value since the map uses various shades of tan that arent very distinguishable. However, someone who is interested in determining which countries use which format can readily be found on the internet and a few of these are shown in color which greatly facilitates an understanding for the reader.

This device is superb and does everything promised. I replaced an older Samsung Blu-ray player (which was a normal one and a great one at that) and a modified DVD player that could play UK DVDs imported (converting from PAL to NTSC formats). This one has exceptional rendering quality and immediately recognizes/plays UK DVDs in PAL as NTSC. In addition, with a simple button push on the remote I was able to confirm a newly purchased UK Blu-ray played immediately as a US one would. Outstanding product and I could not be happier.

Didnt work as promised... I had done my homework that this would be a modified piece of hardware, and was aware of the lemons reported by some. I got mine very quickly, and set it up right away. I popped in the following discs: - Region 1 DVD - worked - Zone A BD - worked - Region 2 DVD - didnt work - Region 5 DVD - didnt work I had a Zone A 3D BD, but by this time, I had lost interest in the piece. I logged a question on the product page, and got helpful replies from some customers - at least one of whom said it hadnt worked for them as well, and at least one other said it had worked for them. Someone mentioned to follow the instructions - well, there were no instructions in my box. I read the reviews, however, and tried to read elsewhere online, but to avail. There was no option I could find that might, sort of, "switch on" its Region/Zone free capabilities. Have returned by piece yesterday. I really want a R/Z free player, so will probably try another model - maybe the Sony, or maybe even the same one but from a different seller.

The seller was great in shipping the BluRay player to me and it was well packaged - 5-stars to Bombay Electronics! But I only give the product 4-stars because Samsung seems to be notorious with leaving out various features in their product versions, such as picture zoom. I have a lot of older DVDs, widescreen but meant to play on a 4x3 screen, so the resulting picture is small and cant be zoomed. I know some TVs do it but mine doesnt without stretching the picture. Picture zoom seems like a feature that should be on all their players, so I dont understand how they pick and choose which features to include/exclude from the various models.

I played the entire trilogy of the Narnia blu-ray movie set, which has a mixture of region A and region B. All three movies played! Great! ...Narnia trilogy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CR34NQU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I tried playing my Russell Crowe "The Next Three Days" blu-ray, and this machine would not play it. Oddly, my Samsung blu-ray player that ISNT region-free (model 5700) DID play this blu-ray!

The player is awesome! I bought a CD of my favorite Korean band a couple years ago and it came with an extra DVD (region 3), I’ve never been able to watch it until now! I popped it in the DVD player and it started right away. I’m so excited that I can watch Korean DVDs without having to worry about finding a Region 1 version!
