I am a Home Theater specialist by trade and purchased this unit for my own use. Having looked over the negative reviews, I decided to buy the unit. Most of the negative reviews seemed to centered around more complex setups and since complex installations go hand in hand problems ( Murphys Law, he loves the fearless), I wrote the complaints off to over engineering the installation. Since my needs were basic and I was more interested in Panasonics reputation for reliable above average performance, I did not expect any issues. The unit has a smallish footprint which is allows more placement options. Always very appealing on its own. There are not many connection options but this is ok for most users. Anyone who is looking for advanced high end installation options will be looking at more complex units. My big needs were a good disc player with robust upscaling to improve video on that occasional off the grid bizzaro flic. Panasonic has always been my first choice to video quality improvement. The analog audio product isnt an available option so not an issue in this review. My second requirement, and this is the big one, was streaming ability that is a robust as an Apple TV or a Roku. With DSL internet fed by predictably bad copper ( Thanks again AT&T), the best download speed I can get is 1.10 mbps. I needed a unit that could work with this effectively which is a big IF. Unboxing and set up are a cakewalk, The menu for network connection is direct and simple. They have not changed this in a couple generations and there is really no need. Its great. The remote has shrunk a bit but no buttons that I wanted are gone and button size isnt any more of a problem for my big fingers that it was with larger remotes. No stupid screen to try and make work leaving you stranded when it fails. Top the unit has a few of the needed basic controls out in plain sight so easy and convenient also. PERFORMANCE: Disc playback was all that I expected, great video. Menu options for video have been drastically reduced but in my case this was not a major issue since I couldnt care less about 3D and there is currently no media or a standardized format for 4K. Now we get to the really GREAT part, the streaming. This unit performs like it was connected directly to a Netflix server, even with my horrible service and it does so direct wired connection or via wifi with my Apple Airport Exteme. Let me mention that most of the HT service issues that we address are due to wifi connectivity so this performance is in part due to the very robust Airport Extreme wifi capability. The new menu layout is great, connection to your movie choice is fast and the screen shots of the flic or TV show help finding that feature that you forgot the name of but remember the faces of the actors. It did stumble when bandwidth became precious during prime veiwing hours but that has more to due with peer to peer bandwidth sharing than the units capabilities. Great video, great audio (due in large part to the rest of my system, Marantz SR5009 and a hot 60" Panasonic LED LCD TV). So it was a better performer than I expected and I was thrilled. PROBLEMS So why only 3 stars? GLITCHY. During streaming playback on the second day of use netflix, it just blacked out after about 45 seconds of playback repeatedly. I was able to get back to the movie the first few times but finally I was so frustrated that I gave up on the show. Since normally a splash will come up saying that there was a network issue that caused the failure, this simply blacking out was an issue with the steaming electronics in the DMP BDT 270. After this problem surfaced, the unit began locking up arbitrarily and would not accept commands from the remote. Control processors and video processors not getting along. I am not sure. Easy fix is cycling power but the only way that this would work was to completely disconnect the unit (Power, HDMI and Network patch cord). The reset restored function but the problems resurfaced so I have returned the unit. The vendor, Discones for you readily accepted the return (or Amazon did) however they do not offer free freight for the return, a policy that would make sense if the unit were not DOA. For me less than 24 hours of normal function is DOA. I hope this review is useful, I am not being paid, just a professional enthusiast.

The purpose of my review thus far is to include a few images I didnt have upon purchase that others may want to see. The only way to do this is to write an actual review so I will update as I use the player more over time. At first glance the player is well made and is no larger than a good sized tablet. You can hold it in one hand. I have an image included of it next to our already small cable box (32" tv above). It really is not much larger than a disc case. Setup was painless and I purposely avoided even looking at the directions for this reason, to see how hard it would be with no understanding of the product. I had it ready to go in less than 10 minutes. The hardest part was turning on my laptop to get the wifi security code. The power cord is similar in shape and size to a cellular adapter.. even the plug is the same. There are only two connections on the back of the player.. the power and the HDMI port.. thats it. So for those who are wondering, there is no ethernet port to connect via cable. Its all wireless.. and if your TV for some reason doesnt have an HDMI port youll need an adapter. The remote is easy to use and if you have a Panasonic TV it will operate that as well. Before I purchased this Panasonic DMP-BDT220 WiFi Blu-Ray DVD Player, I had researched virtually every player available on the market. Theres a lot to pick from, but I wanted to find the player that had the best all-around features, and a great price that would fit my budget. And after looking at a dozen or so different players, I concluded that this Panasonic player was the best pick in its price range. Other players, have various other options, a varied amount of output connections, and may specify on-board memory configurations, etc. While this player does not specify the memory amount, it appears to be sufficient enough to load streaming media (such as Netflix, Amazon Video or Hulu Plus and play it back without any hesitation or pauses. After receiving the player, I hooked it up, and it worked perfectly right from the start. Found my WiFi network without any problems. I entered the security password information and it was connected to my WiFi network and my Internet connection in seconds. Even configured itself with connecting to my other devices and PCs on my network also without any problems. I did not have to enter any network address configurations or anything except for the router/network access password. I was able to instantly see the pictures and videos on my shared PCs on my home network. I use this for my Netflix streaming and it works great with no problems at all. And there is no lag time between the apps selection under the Internet portion of the player, but that might be because Im using this on a fairly high-speed 10/2 broadband connection. Ive also used several of the other Internet apps on the player, and they all worked great as well. The Pros of this player is that it worked perfectly right out of the box, and it was a snap to setup, connect to the Internet through my WiFi network, and very easy to tell it to automatically download and update the firmware. This can also be done by downloading the firmware file from a computer and putting it on a CD-ROM or a flash drive, and then inserting that into the player, and the player will then see it, and automatically update the firmware. The only Cons of this player, if one at all, would be that it lacks a second HDMI or Component HD connection on the back of the player, but for me, that wasnt a problem, as I connected this player, using the HDMI connection, directly to my HDTV. It does offer also an optical digital audio out connection, which I have connected to my Sony 7.1 Home Theater System, and it works perfectly. Blu-Ray movies look and sound GREAT!! ALL IN ALL, I think this is a terrific WiFi Player from Panasonic and I think anyone would be very satisfied with this player. I know I am. And doing a lot of research before I purchased this did help in picking a very good player. I think its the best WiFi Blu-Ray player in its price category. One last suggestion though, is to purchase a color calibration DVD, which is available on Amazon, to calibrate or re-calibrate your TV using the Blu-ray Player. This will assure you that your television is set correctly, for not only color, but also for hue, brightness and contrast as well.

My last Panasonic held up for nine years without a glitch. So I decided to stick with the brand again. Wow! Nine years has brought great improvements! Image quality and color are superb. Playback is quick. It’s outfitted with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, a USB port and SD card slot. I also don’t have to play with buttons on my main remote to lock into the DVD player. It shifts automatically as soon as I hit play. No problems shifting from Blue Ray to standard DVD. Plays all my Netflix rentals without a problem . Only negative: The remote’s a little small (I hate small buttons) but I can live with that. Here’s hoping it holds up as long as my last Panasonic. Great company.

After two years using this Blue Ray DVD player I have to give it the thumbs down. About every 3rd DVD I get from Netflix has problems playing. They freeze up, stutter, skip, some are watchable after skipping a few minutes of the movie, others had to be sent back for a replacement disc. Spraying and polishing with Endust, helps but doesnt cure the problem. What does cure the problem is buying a Sony DVD player. After reading that Sonys will play damaged DVDs better, I finally broke down and tried one, a BDP-S6500. I played the same Blue-Ray DVD that was skipping and stuttering in the Panasonic, in the Sony and it never hesitated a bit, worked perfectly. Best $100.00 I ever spent, now I can sit down and watch a movie without cussing at the DVD player. Maybe I should also apologize to Netflix for all the bad things I said about them sending me scratched and damaged DVDs.

I purchased the Panasonic DMP-BDT460 on July 16, 2018. It installed beautifully with a fast, easy interface for entering my wifi password, etc. Likewise, signing in to my Netflix account was a breeze. Then I went looking for the Amazon streaming app, and it was nowhere to be found. It was not even available in the app market area so that I could install it for use. I consider myself very tech savvy, and I dont give up easily on figuring out tech problems. Ive searched the Internet for help finding a solution, and as of right now the Amazon streaming app is simply not available on the Panasonic DMP-BDT460. Its a shame because it looks like an otherwise good device. It plays my Blue-Ray disks well, but I bought it to stream all the things as well as play my Blue-Ray disks. Shame on Panasonic for not offering ALL the most popular streaming app options in 2018. Since I do not have money to burn, I will return the unit and choose something else.

This is for the Panasonic BDT270 Blu-Ray DVD player. I had an older Panasonic which just died after five years of great performance. Earlier in the week I bought the Sony BDPS6700 to replace it. Everyone said it was great. It was not. I hated it. The Sony did not render DVDs very well at all. Easy to set up and use, but terrible images no matter how much I tried to adjust it. I returned it and got the Panasonic. The BDT270 is a low end player - not nearly as nice as my older Panasonic; however, far superior to the Sony. The rendering of both Blu-Ray and DVDs is great. The images are upscaled to near 4K resolution. The Panasonic is harder to use and take longer to set up then the Sony, but the picture is so much better. I really have no use for the apps as I have a smart TV, but I tried out Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos anyway. They took a little longer to load then I would like, but once loaded, they worked great. Again, I purchased this to watch DVDs and Blu-rays. It works great and provides an awesome picture. The sound is also great. Note, I have a Samsung soundbar with a 55" Vizio 4K TV. I had to set the sound output to PCM, Bitstream did not work with my current configuration. total set up and customization took about twenty minutes. If youre vacillating between the Panasonic and the Sony, its no competition. The Panasonic is so much better. I highly recommend it for an upscaling DVD and Blu-Ray player. I got it on Amazon just under $100.00! You can not go wrong with this product.

I had the same problem someone else reported. Had the player for 7 months and it started reporting that DVDs were incompatible. I tested it on some of my older DVDs and they had the same problem. I unplugged the unit and replugged it in (rebooted it), and it then played my older DVD fine. But 1 hour later and it wouldnt play it again. So the reader mechanism isnt reliable. I checked for the latest firmware update and I have the latest. I dont like giving bad reviews, but this one deserved it. If it was just me, Id say its a one off. But I saw someone else had the same problem.

I only use this unit in our basement entertainment system, which is very infrequently--maybe once per month. The issue of it not ejecting might be misinterpreted as having a mind of its own but is likely just how slow this unit responds. It has always been that way, taking about 30 - 60 seconds to open. It also takes about a minute to turn on. Aside from that, it worked well for about a year but then would turn off in the middle of playing a disc of any kind. I now consider this a defective product (either design or build quality). This is disappointing. I used to hold Panasonic in very high regard, having bought and enjoyed many of their products but no more. One disastrous product can ruin a companys reputation. This is one such product.

Overall, I really like this Blu-Ray player. I was looking for a unit with a small footprint and they dont come much smaller than this. I was also looking for a unit that would play discs and also stream content so I could free up the HDMI port I am currently using for a Roku box. I did eventually succeed, and the Netflix app on this unit has become my favorite...but establishing the network connection was much more of a headache than it needed to be, The two main issues are: 1) this unit is sensitive to security protocols (it can connect with WPA2, it cannot connect to WEP) and 2) the manual is ambiguous on this point but this player does not have an ethernet port so wireless connection is the only option. The "Easy Network Connection" utility on this player is only "easy" in the sense that it is easy to find out whether or not the player is compatible with your network. If it is not (which was the case on our network), the only feedback was that the player failed to connect. Network configuration options on the player are limited; so if the connection does fail, theres not much you can do to the player to correct the problem. I was able to tease out the players network preferences by connecting it to another network (using my phone as a mobile hotspot) and once I knew what protocols it would accept, I made changes to my home network so that this unit would connect to the network. I was afraid this might have introduced some connectivity issues with other devices, but so far this does not seem to be a problem. Once I established the network connection and started using it, I really like this unit and Im glad Im able to use a unit of this size instead of rearranging and entire shelving unit to accommodate a different one thats a few inches wider. Id give it 5 stars if it werent for the finicky network connection; if I can seamlessly connect with a $49 Roku box, Id think all the other manufacturers could have figured it out by now.
